VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Halloween Day and Eve!

Posted on Oct 24 2014 - 9:23am

Halloween Night Train Rides 2014 needs volunteers.

Be part of this local legendary event.  Service opportunity details are immediately below.  Event details further down.

Be sure to send your service hours to Francine Lopacinski for sign-off and unit tracking purposes (solhermana@sbcglobal.net).

Service opportunities:

10am-4:30pm  Join us behind the scenes as we need 8-10 older teens and/or adults to decorate.  We enjoy your young children but frankly they will get too distracted with the props.  The lights will be done but the props and scenes need to be set out.  Come early.

4:30pm-10pm  Be a part of the scene if you are a happy, fun and an outgoing volunteer.  Must like kids!  Duties include assisting children on and off the train, chaperone the riders, and assist the exiting guests.  If you plan to stay all night, your job will rotate.  It takes 6 responsible high schoolers/adults to work the event at any moment.  Friendly costumes required (no masks, please).  Bring props in after closing.

Suggest 2 hour shifts but ANY amount of time is appreciated.

Need service hours?  This is a great way to earn them!

Contact Francine Lopacinski if you'd like to help!  (solhermana@sbcglobal.net)

Potholes Announcement

Posted on Oct 13 2014 - 4:22pm
Hi T301 families and scouts, just a quick outing reminder.
We're looking forward to a beautiful weekend (10/18-19) enjoying one of our Troop's most beloved camping spots- Potholes.  It's located off the American River near Kit Carson and Silver Lake in the Sierra-Nevada mountains.  If you and/or your scout want to go and haven't signed up as yet please do so as quickly as possible.
The Troop's pack check for this trip is scheduled to occur at Monday's Troop meeting (10/13).  Please make sure to bring everything you plan to have (except food) during this outing with you so it can be reviewed with your senior scouts and adult leaders.
Meal plans should be generated between the scouts and responsibility for getting the food will be agreed to between the scouts in each assigned outing patrol before leaving Monday's Troop meeting.
Although a passing evening shower is expected Friday night, the skies should be clear when we arrive at Silver Lake around 12Noon Saturday (but pack for inclement weather just in case the showers linger longer than than expected). We're expecting bright sunshine all weekend, with daytime temperatures in the low to mid 60s (real feel 70) and night time lows in the mid to upper 30s.
See you next Saturday morning at the Safeway parking lot off the corner of Alameda and Ralston. Departure is scheduled to occur no later than 7am.
