Webelos Briding Ceremonies - Need Volunteers

Posted on Mar 11 2017 - 10:58am

We have been asked by our friends at Pack 83 and Pack 65 to build our rope bridge for their Webelos Bridging Ceremonies.

Pack 83's ceremony will be at Twin Pines Park in Belmont on Sunday March 19th from 2-5pm.  (This is immediately following the Mystery Trip, so we're especially hoping for scouts not going on that trip to represent the troop for our new scouts coming from Pack 83.)

Pioneering Merit Badge Working Sessions

Posted on Dec 16 2016 - 12:31pm
Dear Scouts of Troop 301,
Mr. Schade and Mr. McDermott will be holding two work sessions over the holidays toward the Pioneering merit badge.  If you are interested in pioneering, this will be a great way to get started, and more sessions will be offered after these first two to complete the full merit badge.  You can come to one, the other, or both sessions.  The sessions will be at Mr. Schade's house on December 30 and January 6 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm, and all materials will be provided.
The Pioneering merit badge starts by learning how to do pioneering safely; then covers a range of rope work, including knots, lashings, splicing, rope throwing, and even rope making; then we get into learning how to design and build a large scale pioneering project such as a tower, a bridge, or camp furniture; and then finally we build a full size project!
As you probably know, Troop 301 builds a monkey bridge each year at Webelos Xtreme.  Not only is it very well received by the visiting Webelos, but the Scouts who build it can say they really accomplished something together as a team and feel proud about that, not to mention it is fun!  Working on the Pioneering merit badge will help Scouts develop more of those types of skills.  Who knows, maybe at summer camp we can put up a Troop 301 flag tower right in our camp!
Please pass the word and come join us on this rewarding and fun merit badge.
